Considering a refurbished laptop but unsure what “Grade A” or “Grade B” actually means?
You’re not alone — it’s one of the most common questions we get here at NZ Laptop Wholesale.

In this post, we’ll break down our grading system so you know exactly what to expect when buying a refurbished device in New Zealand — no surprises, just solid value.

🔧 What Is Refurbished, Exactly?

Most of our stock comes from corporate lease returns, usually after 2–3 years of professional use in well-managed office environments. These aren’t hand-me-downs — they’re business-grade machines that have been maintained, protected, and regularly serviced.

When they arrive at our Auckland HQ, every device goes through a full refurbishment process, including:

  • Hardware and cosmetic inspection
  • Secure data erasure
  • Deep cleaning
  • Windows and drivers reinstallation
  • Licensing where applicable

🏷️ What Does Grade A Mean?

Grade A = Excellent Condition

These units:

  • Work perfectly
  • Look great (just light wear and tear)
  • Are clean, tested, and ready to go
  • Are ideal for customers who want reliability and a tidy finish

We consider Grade A devices fit for sight-unseen sales, which is why they’re the standard for most products listed on nzlw.co.nz.

🟡 What About Grade B?

Grade B = Great Value, With Character

Not every laptop is a beauty queen — some come with cosmetic flaws but perform just as well. If a unit is technically perfect but has:

  • Noticeable scuffs
  • Slight cracks (non-structural)
  • Plastic discolouration
  • Sticker residue or light LCD scratches

…we classify it as Grade B and clearly mark it as such on the product page. These are perfect for students, workshops, or anyone who wants top performance on a budget.

🚫 What Is Grade C?

Grade C units are either cosmetically rough, older, or used for parts. We never list them for retail sale. These go to our wholesale clients only.
